Russian culture is about to become much closer and less complex for many, who still think that Russia is populated by vodka-drinking balalaika-playing bears! "Sapphire", a prominent club comfortably located in the heart of the East village (249 Eldridge St.), will become home to Russian indie rock performers and artists, who will present their music and paintings in the show entitled “Russian Cosmic Attack” on July 26, from 6-10 pm. A great opportunity to experience something different for a change! The show is an initiative of "The Russian Independent Art Movement" (RIAM), an independent group of volunteers, whose goal is to find and unearth talented Russian-speaking authors, performers, artists, and other creative people and help them promote their art. The organization is non-commercial. The brain power behind this project is an experimental music band called "The Star Cooperation" and a newly formed Russian Punk Club (www.russianpunkclub.com, under construction). In 2007, Robin Gutnaher and Dmitri Bannikov (a.k.a “Pike”), co-founders of "The Star Cooperation", organized 17 performances for local bands and poets, which received a warm welcome from the Russian community. Today, Pike and Robin are even more enthusiastic and ready to advance to the next level. The "Russian Cosmic Attack" is their new show. It is a collaborative project of the “Star Cooperation” together with Elena Rodina (a.k.a “El Earthbourne”), an independent cosmic conceptualist (www.elkino.com/poetry.html). Along with The Star Cooperation & Rodina, this show features 2 Russian bands (The Clox, Ed Pitt) and 3 artists (Sasha Braginsky, Marsha Pugachevsky, and Uncle Dima). All the participants of the show represent different subcultures within the Russian community of New York City. "There is a whole new world out there", Pike says, "We will expose every corner of it, one piece at a time".
The organization is non-commercial. Come by you will experience
something completely different! Also see details on www.ycrop.com * * * Visions Gallery is Proud to Present Russian Contemporary Art from the Private Collection of Nina Tomczak
